what is The Senior Probie?
The Senior Probie began in the form of a small Instagram page and an avenue for the author to share his personal thoughts on the fire service, culture, leadership and many more topics. As the platform quickly gained traction, it became apparent that in a new, young and quickly growing fire service, firefighters across the nation all share similar struggles with their identity and defining culture in their firehouses.
After only sharing and inspiring through social media, more individuals continued reaching out sharing their own cultural struggles and we were left feeling the need to do more. This has lead to the expansion of this platform and the beginnings of Senior Probie Fire Training.
Our mission is to inspire and positively impact the culture of the modern day firefighter, the young company officer, and the tenured members who are all passionate about pride, ownership, training, traditions and constantly growing within their firehouses. We want to ensure true “firemanship” is built to last in the modern day fire service.
The name “Senior Probie” comes from the those who inspire naturally and without prompting. Those who never stop learning and those who teach by doing. It signifies a “Probie” mentality that never leaves, and is a reflection of individuals who are constantly seeking to learn more and pass every bit of it on, from day 1 until retirement.
We are not “legends” of the fire service. We are not highly decorated chief officers. We are backsteps, informal leaders and mentors. We are firemen, and we are here for our brothers and sisters and our culture as a whole. You don’t have to sign up for our classes. You don’t have to order from our store. The greatest support you can show us is simply by clicking a follow button and sharing what you find value in. That is how you support the mission and spread the word. In our minds, if we can positively impact a single firefighter, then it is all worth it.

Sam
Sam is a full-time fireman from Texas. A majority of his career has been spent as both a Firefighter and an Engineer on Truck companies in a mid-sized suburban fire department. Sam has training and experience in technical rescue, search/VEIS, truck/roof ops, and vehicle extrication, and more. He also coordinates his department’s New-Hire Training Program, and has sat on multiple Interview Panels.
A heavy passion and desire to strengthen the value of firemanship and build a healthy firehouse culture have greatly influenced him to drive The Senior Probie brand; locally and nationally impacting firefighters in a positive way and encouraging others to build strong and healthy cultures in their own departments.
